Do You Know the Largest Tree on earth? Lets Explore

Well we all are aware of skyscrapers. If not then don't worry here is a quick info about it, Generally Skyscrapers are tall or high-rise buildings that has over 40 floors and as tall as 150m. There are certain trees which grows tall, these trees are generally called as nature's skyscrapers.

A particular variety of trees which is located in Sequoia National Park in California are well known for their height, these natural skyscrapers grow to an average height of 150-300 feet that is nearly 29 floor building. Isn't it scary..?   These massive single organisms are named as General Sherman and are generally described as Giant Sequoia.

The common name sequoia was described by Austrian linguist and botanist Stephan Endlicher in 1847, although the origin of the name remains a mystery.
The giant sequoia was also considered an important tree by the Native Americans that lived around the Sierra Nevada and in Sequoia National Park.

The Giant Sequoia need sun constantly to grow, hence it grows taller.
I get your point "These trees grows taller, are they strong enough?"
    - Indeed, their trunk are strong enough even fire can't burn it, neither storm hits nor flood sweep. Sequoia stands strong...!

Seedlings are vulnerable and can quickly be choked out in the shade of other plants. Natural forest fires caused by hot and dry summers help clear out other growth around the sequoias. Most other conifers secrete pitch and resin, which makes them very flammable.

Interesting fact- A well known Giant Sequoias is about 3000 years old...! It estimated to 6,167 tons and volume of 1,487 cubic meters.

Sequoias are fire resistant, Natural fires rarely get through the bark of mature sequoias, which can grow up to two feet thick. Hot air from the fire rises and dries up in the branches of sequoias. This causes them to open seeds, and guarantees that seedlings grow only after the surrounding area has been cleared out.

The giant sequoia is one of three types of redwoods, alongside the coast redwood and the dawn redwood.
